The Uninvited Commentary

"The Uninvited"--The title isn't referring to anything that I can think of, but it is interesting since nobody in the episode was "uninvited," although some were not invited to begin with (Shawn).

"Homies" is a slang term that comes from "home-boys."

Alan does not go to play basketball with Cory. Cory seems to remember this lack of sports connection between them in "Raging Cory."

In Mr. Feeny's classroom, there is a map of Europe pulled down over the board, though he is talking about American History.

Shawn says that, if it's a make-out party, it still won't be one for Cory. He seems to be worsening Cory's chances of being invited. Shawn's not such a great friend himself.

Go Patriots!--Most likely a school sports team since the New England Patriots football team would not likely be supported in a Pennsylvania public school.

Everyone in this season seems to agree that 7th grade counts as high school.

Frankie has a sister who is never mentioned again. He calls home to talk to her, implying that she still lives at home. But she must be older than Frankie, since she wasn't at the kids' table in "Turkey Day" and wasn't attending school with Frankie. Perhaps she was college age in this episode?

Harley says he looks at Cory's face and doesn't want to hit it. That must be true. In all 158 episodes, Harley never hits Cory, does little more than constantly threaten him, and never hurts him more than Eric or Shawn ever did.

The first party of the year is in late October. You'd think that the kids would already be somewhat divided into groups at this point.

"I might as well grow a hump, find a tower, and ring the bell." Cory is, of course, referring to The Hunchback of Notre Dame. He can relate to this famous outcast, but he's also plugging Quasi's animated Disney movie, which was released the year after this episode ran.

Shawn's uncle Frank was first mentioned in "Risky Business" as a good gambler. In that episode, Cory mentioned that he lived in a trailer. Now Cory says that Uncle Frank has been living with Shawn: an early hint that Shawn also lives in a trailer.

There's an odd sequence here when Melissa is passing out the invitations--very rare to Boy Meets World. But notice that the geekier-looking kids are the ones who are being invited.

Shawn seems uncharacteristically concerned about being late for class.

"Come, let us repair to the gym and rejoice in our invitation." Not sure of the reference here, but it's got to be something. Cory mentions "high school gods," so it may be a variation of a mythology quote.

This is the first time Chubbie's is mentioned.

Cory's going to have a hard time reaching any cool kids from school if he calls them while school is in session.

Now the boys are really late for class. Yet, they suddenly don't seem to care.

By the time the next schoolyear begins, they still haven't fixed that faulty vending machine. In fact, Cory gets a free drink out of it then with even more ease.

"You teach Engligh pretty good." Obviously not "good" enough for Cory to know that "good" is not an adverb. However, that would be the job of a grammer teacher and Mr. Turner teaches literature.

"Si, it's mui importante." I've never taken Spanish, but even I can see that this most likely translates to, "Yes, it's very important."

There will be a pep rally on Thursday afternoon. It's Friday. Would this mean the rally is Thursday of next week or does it mean that someone forgot to take the sign down from the previous day?

"You're new here, so you wouldn't know this, but I've never thought of myself as cool before." Both Cory and Mr. Turner are new to the school. By "here," Cory must mean that Mr. Turner is new to his life. And didn't Cory make fun of the supposedly "uncool" kids back in 6th grade?

We can see that the vending machine has at least white, red, green, and purple cans in it. This would mean, probably, root beer, cola, ginger ale and grape soda.

Amy compares Cory to Wilt the Stilt. Is that the coolest person she could think of?
turner failed me 2-i ended a sentence w/ a preposition!
Cory still has that red Phillies hat in his room, made so famous in "Cory's Alternative Friends."

Melissa Harrington doesn't stay the coolest for very long. In fact, we never see her again. Maybe her failed party ruined the rest of her cool career.

"Coolio Iglesias"--a combination of rapper Coolio and Latino singer Julio Iglesias.

I hope none of the cologne that cory put right on his face got in his eyes. That could do some major damage.

Melissa Harrington's basement is strikingly similar to Missy Robinson's in "The Last Temptation of Cory" and, really, any basement that has ever been used on the show.

Melissa also supports the Patriots

"It's a geek party!"--Another unusual thing for Boy Meets World to do: an odd zoom, a sound effect, and Cory yelling something that he obviously couldn't have really yelled in that setting.

Melissa's basement also has a self-proclaimed Paul Bunyon Cupboard, a Norman Rockwell painting, a golden eagle, and a gumball machine.

If Melissa knew the party was going to be ruined, why did she still have it at all?

Chubbie's has signs that say "Shakes" and "Cheers" and a dart target on the wall, as well has a vintage flyer for the Best Bicylces on Earth (or something similar).

Cory made quite a mistake, expecting every teacher to give him Mr. Feeny advice! Looks like Turner does things his own way.

I wouldn't exactly call what's going on at Chubbie's a "party." Maybe Turner described it best when he said "mob scene."

Shawn orders fries, then leaves with Cory.

Chubbie's also supports the Patriots.

I hope Alan remembers to pick up Cory. He seems a bit distracted. Of course, how in the world could he know that Cory left the party and went to Chubbie's?

"I can walk, Sister Amy! I'm healed!"--Oh, Alan, you're not going to have sex with a nun, are you?
