It's Cory and Topanga's wedding day and Cory and Shawn are in a fight. Cory refuses to talk about the fact that he and Shawn will never be best friends again, so Shawn refuses to be Cory's best man. When Eric takes over, he moves the wedding to the most expensive place in town, illegally. No one knows how he pulled this off, but the wedding pretty much goes on as planned until Shawn comes with the rings that Eric forgot and he and Cory have it out once and for all.
My review: Ok, the whole series was leading up to this episode, so there was a lot of pressure to make it good. So why didn't they? The previous episode led us to believe that there would be a nice, southern bell wedding in Cory's house with Topanga wearing Amy's civil war wedding dress and Shawn being the best man. But what do they do instead? They do a stupid Cory and Shawn cat-fight only, this time, when they act gay, no joke is made about it. They do Eric at his stupidest. They think the intelligent audience would like to see all the guys in their underwear or see three producer's kids say their cute little one line each, having nothing to do with the plot. This episode was one of the worst. It was not only not good like some of the earlier episodes that just weren't anything special, it was BAD. It was bad because they tried to make it good and failed. It was like any episode of one of those other, dumb sitcoms. Come on, that's not the BMW I know! The only good parts were the vows, when Eric and Cory call Shawn "poor" and "trailer trash," and the whole shady business with the hall thinking they were the Petermans. Part of the problem was that they cut out all the good stuff in the version that I saw, so that left us with nothing but the stupid scenes, like that unnecessary, little scream-fest with Topanga, Angela, and Rachel. What the heck was that? The things is, Cory and Topanga were in love for the whole series (although not always so openly). In this season, the whole mood of the show changed, so it was odd to fulfill something from so long ago in a show that was so different from how it used to be. Memorable Quotes: Pastor: "We are gathered here today to join together Harold and Myra in Holy Matrimony." Eric: "Just keep going. Just keep going!" -submitted by Melanie would have been way better w/ no cuts! Back to Season 7 |
Episode #142
Production #B-827 Originally aired: ABC, 8pm, Friday, November 5, 1999 Guest Stars: Willie Garson, Marcia Cross, Josh Jacobs, Mark Harelik, John Balma, Gene Dynarski, David Jacobs, Rachel Jacobs, John Jacobs Directed by: Jerry Levine What Disney cut out: It's hard to tell whether he says it in the Disney version, but Eric's full line was, "Okay, I think it's time for the older brother to give the younger brother the pre-wedding sex talk, ok?" After Eric says, "Take notes, Mommy," he says, "Eric Matthews is giving lessons in human boinging!" Then, Mr. Matthews says, "Oh, no, no, no, no, no." Eric says, "Alright, lesson 1: Sex without love is empty and hollow and that's just the way we men like it, huh!" Mr. Feeny then says to Eric, "Eric, you're completely missing the beauty of human sexuality. It's not just a physical act. It's the intimacy between two people sharing their souls," and Eric replies, "Maybe for old people." and Feeny walks out saying, "You know, you're all crazy." After Eric says, "Fire Shawn, you know you want to," he says, "Come on, give me the job. I'm your brother. We both came out of our daddy's womb!" Download the sound clip!
